Why is the edding permanent spray paint flaking off?
The base layer should always have a higher level of pigmentation than the subsequent paint layer. Primers are highly pigmented; clear lacquer contain no colour pigments at all. The ideal way to build up coats of paint is therefore: primer – colour paint – clear lacquer.
If you build up coats of paint from different manufacturers, that can also lead to poor results, as products from different suppliers are often incompatible. The same principle also applies to sprayheads, so always use products from the same manufacturer for each individual project.
The paint cannot adhere to smooth plastic surfaces. To prevent flaking, the object should always be pre-treated with edding 5200 permanent spray plastic primer. Ideally, you should also use a plastic cleaner to clean the plastic surface first.
