There are several 3D printing processes and different materials. In the private sector, we tend to use an FDM printer with ABS or PLA materials. We can definitely recommend our edding 750 gloss paint marker or the edding 5100 acrylic marker for this purpose. However, due to the solvents used in the edding 750, the ABS material is dissolved. The applied ink penetrates the surface. A similar behaviour applies to the combination of PLA with the edding 5100.
With FDM printers, layers are laid on top of each other. This leads to a kind of capillary effect, so that the lettering appears "frayed". This behaviour is less pronounced with aqueous inks, but they take longer to dry. This would be the edding 5100, which is water-based.
